This is the final week of the online student survey for Project Information Literacy. SCF has been participating in this national research project through an email survey sent to our full-time students.

The study is examining how college students conduct research in the digital age. This is important research that will give us information about how our students study and learn

Check your student email and take the survey. There is still time to participate. The survey will close on Tuesday, April 27.

There are only 22 questions, and it will only take about 15 minutes of your time. When you take the survey, you will automatically be entered in a drawing for a $150 gift certificate from Amazon.com.

Spring Semester Update

After a long absence, the Library Link blog is back in operation.

Spring 2010 has brought lots of changes at the SCF Libraries. We have added a new print/copy system, refurbished the front counter at the circulation desk in Bradenton, added many new video titles to the Student Choice collection, and added many new academic titles to our circulating collection as well as new databases to our online collection.

Notable events at the SCF Libraries in recent months have been:

Book signing by film instructor Del Jacobs at the Bradenton campus
Faculty professional development workshops at Bradenton and Venice
Student drop-in workshops at Venice
Student library design charette at Bradenton
Art exhibit at Venice
Book sale at Bradenton

The semester is well underway and activity is brisk at the SCF Libraries. Here are some of our current developments:

There are additional public computers available at both campus libraries - eight more in Bradenton, and four more in Venice.

Also, each campus library has laptops that can be checked out by students for use in the library. Ask at the Circulation Desk.

There are suggestion boxes at both the Bradenton and Venice campus libraries. Something on your mind? Let us know.

Gearing up for fall

Summer B has come to a close, and at the SCF Libraries, we are gearing up for the fall semester.

Here’s a list of some of the new things you can expect to see at your campus libraries next semester:

A new café at the Bradenton campus library.
More computers at both campus libraries.
Laptops that can be checked out for use in the library.
A new and improved library website.

This blog will provide library information and outreach to the students, faculty, and staff at Manatee Community College (soon to be The State College of Florida).

As the Information Literacy Librarian at the Bradenton campus library, I provide library instruction to help our students learn how to use the full range of library services and how to develop information literacy skills.

Library Link will be updated each month to provide information about the library's resources, as well as timely discussion of issues related to library instruction, research, and information literacy.

Because this blog is intended for outreach as well as to provide information, I strongly encourage all students, faculty and staff to provide constructive feedback about my blog entries - what they find helpful, and what issues they would like to see discussed here.

The librarians and staff at the library are dedicated to helping our students achieve academic success, and to working collaboratively with our teaching faculty. We hope that this blog will provide another venue for reaching those goals.
